Learning SEO - Where do i start? - part 1 -

"So you want to learn seo"

well so did i once, thats why i took it upon myself to write this short list of pointers for people who are complete beginners in search engine optimization and want to start learning it.

Learn how to build basic websites

First of all, Before you start meddling around with any seo. you best know how to build basic web pages without using a web page editor, or in other words, write html code.

Html is afairly easy language to learn, but you should take some time to learn it well before you start doing seo. there are many good tutorials and ebooks you can read online. just google it.

Here are some good ones that i found online:
HTML,XHTML and CSS for dummies from the dummies series
Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML from the O'reily brand
HTML, XHTML, and CSS, Sixth Edition

Pick your Keywords

This Is a crucial part in the process because once you choose your keywords, your entire seo endeavor will be set around them. as a beginner you should start with a keyword that is not very competitive in order to learn the basic cause and effect taking place in seo.

Go to diffrent search engines such as google and yahoo and search for your keyword terms; if you see a small bunch of no good websites then youve found your non-competitive keyword.

you can also look for keyword ideas with the google keyword tool.

There Are Basically three types of keywords:Main Keyword (often referred to as the primary keyword),The Secondary Keywords and long tail keywords. Primary keywords are the main theme your website deals with. they are the most sought after search quieries in search engines for your keyword's market and thats why they are your primary keywords.

Secondary Keywords are the search phrases that your site's pages refer to. for example an seo service company might have apage in the website about seo tools, and that is potentially a secondary keyword.

long tail keyword are case specific search phrases, for example "seo company in tel aviv israel"
would be along tail keyword. these keywords are very effective for getting "filtered" traffic into your web site from a case specific search term, but they shouldnt bother you as much as the primary and secondary keywords, if your site is designed well for those keywords. the long tail ones will kind of promote themselves. You can use the following free SEO tool to find and track your website keywords.

I found your old post on SEO but it still has some relevance even in the search engine optimization landscape today.
